Today's match predictions: projected XIs, pitch reads and captaincy
Match-day predictions are a forecast, not a promise. The {BRAND} editorial desk publishes projected playing XIs, pitch reads, toss impact and captaincy reasoning ninety minutes before each match. We tell you what we know, what we don't, and where our confidence actually sits.
What this page covers
Every evening, the {BRAND} desk publishes projected playing XIs for the day's fixtures, with attention to the official toss and any last-minute injury news. We add a short pitch read based on the venue curator's report and a brief note on the most likely captain picks.
We do not publish a 'guaranteed winner'. Fantasy cricket does not have guaranteed winners. We publish what we know, what is uncertain, and where our confidence actually sits — so you can build your team with eyes open.
How we build a projected XI
The projected XI starts with the franchise's likely first-choice eleven. We cross-check it against recent selection patterns, injury news and pitch conditions. The desk also tracks which players the franchise has publicly committed to in the build-up to a match.
Where there is genuine uncertainty — a rested all-rounder, a returning seam bowler — we flag it explicitly in the prediction. We do not guess; we publish what is most likely and note the probability.
Reading the pitch report
Pitch reports fall into three categories. Green: grass cover, seam-friendly, often overcast. Dry: cracked, spin-friendly, often slow. Flat: even bounce, batting-friendly, often high-scoring.
Each category changes captaincy. On green pitches, captaincy on strike bowlers pays off; on dry pitches, captaincy on top-order batters with strong spin match-ups pays off; on flat pitches, captaincy on the in-form batter with the highest average scores pays off.
Toss impact on captaincy
Toss decisions in T20 cricket are roughly 60 percent bowl-first and 40 percent bat-first. The chase has a slight edge because dew makes the second-innings pitch easier to bat on, especially in evening matches.
When a team wins the toss and bowls first, captaincy on their top three batters is the safe play. When a team bats first on a flat track, captaincy on their strike bowlers who bowl at the death is the differential play.
Captaincy candidates for tonight's fixture
The desk names two captaincy candidates per match: one safe, one differential. The safe candidate is the in-form player with the highest match-up score; the differential candidate is the same profile with under 10 percent ownership.
We publish the desk's confidence for each candidate. A high-confidence safe pick is one we would captain in any contest. A high-confidence differential is one we would captain only in mega contests. A low-confidence pick means we would not captain at all.
Where to verify predictions before lock-in
The official toss happens 30 minutes before the match. Predictions published ninety minutes before are forecasts; predictions published after the toss are reads.
Players should always verify the playing XI with the broadcaster's official announcement before lock-in. The {BRAND} desk updates its predictions immediately after the toss and flags any changes to captaincy reasoning.
Questions readers send the desk most weeks
How accurate are your predictions?
We publish projected XIs, not guaranteed lineups. Our track record on projected XIs is published on the review page; captaincy recommendations are explicitly labelled as high or low confidence.
Do you ever publish a 'guaranteed winner'?
No. Fantasy cricket does not have guaranteed winners. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you a false promise.
What happens if the predicted XI changes at toss?
We update the prediction immediately after the toss. The captaincy candidates page reflects any changes to playing XIs and reasons through the new lock-in logic.
How do you decide between two close captaincy candidates?
We use a five-factor model: recent form (last five matches), venue record (last five matches at the venue), match-up edge, ownership percentage and toss impact.
